One of our first Stories

The Alcoa Building in Golden Gateway Center (now One Maritime) in San Francisco
Rich Zavala and his partner at the time Len established Richlen Construction in June of 1978. The partners entered an exclusive market with a company that gave them rights to Sliding Office Panel Partitions. These panels required knowledge of how to interlock their systems without ruining the tracks and panels. Richlen crews learned to install (and remove) these expensive panels quickly without damage. This kept Richlen steps above competitors, who did not want to handle the costly partitions. Often other project opportunities opened because our crews were already on site. Owners, Property Managers, and Chiefs of buildings learned and most important remembered our Richlen crew’s names. These relationships have kept Richlen building for 33 years!

  • One of the best decisions the ownership made was to get Richlen involved early in the budget process. There were several different schemes to evaluate and they provided accurate order of magnitude estimates for the ownership to complete its feasibility studies.
